ANME 2013 Wrap Up

What a weekend! If you follow me on Twitter @KimAirs, you saw what I was up to this weekend at ANME or The Founders Show. That’s Adult Novelty Manufacturers Expo for the uninitiated. But if you missed my tweets, I’ve collected the photos and details here for you in one convenient spot. I know you guys like convenience. Plus, now you have a way to learn about all the fantastic products I encountered (and tested!) as I strolled from booth to booth–or should I say from tent to booth?

ANME Day 1: The Exhibitor Tent

Make your own dick! Or pussy! There were Clone-A-Willy Kits aplenty on display.

There were a lot of new lubricant companies there, too. Off the top of my head, SLYD and Tiger Lube stood out from the newer picks and Uberlube always impresses with their clear glass bottles.
One of my favorites, the Magic Wand was there. No longer sporting the Hitachi name, this Vibratex staple is still the best. And thanks to a creative relaunch, this vibrator is set to be even better with updated tech and sleek new packaging.

One of the highlights of the day was the Crave booth. I got to build my very own vibrator! How cool is that? The Crave is super easy to use. It features two prongs, each with their own vibrators in the tips. It’s powerful and small. However, getting to build it was the standout attraction. I got to pick out a silicone sleeve, motor, control panel, and USB charger. Then I put all the parts together–following step-by-step instructions–and applied silicone glue. Once the glue dried, I was able to test the electrical components. After 10 minutes, I walked away with my very-own-vibe, built by yours truly!

Zolo Masturbators stood out, too. With clever advertising, Pocket Pool has never been so fun.

Plus, I designed this display for Nasstoys. Nice eh?? You can clearly see some of the products I’ve reviewed here, too, like the Strapless Strap-on.

Masque Sexual Flavors were there, too, and you all know how I feel about those yummy little strips.

ANME Day 2

The second day of the Expo brought even more booths with high quality products for me to lay my little hands on. Yippee! Look at how stylish these new offerings from JOPEN are? I can’t wait to give ’em a try!

And could this get any more fun? ScreamingO came out with a vibrating mustache called the MustachiO! Words can’t even express how much I LOVE IT!

OhMiBod has the right idea. The Lovelife Flex are kegel weights coming soon to a sex toy store near you. They look so delicate and feminine, but are sure to pack a punch.

ANME Day 3

By the time the last day of ANME rolled around, I was exhausted, but there were still more things to see! I persevered just for you all. I know, I know: I’m so selfless in my pursuit of the best sex toys.
Here I am product testing in the XR LLC booth. I’m using that fucking machine the best way I know how!

I also stumbled upon the NS Novelties booth. They had some silicone restraints on display and they are super soft, comfortable, and fun. What a brilliant idea!

I might post some more in depth info later about specific booths and exhibits. But for now, know this: my trip to ANME 2013 was a huge success. Great products, tons of schmoozing, and lots of fun. I can’t wait till next year!

Love Candy by Kendra: The Curve Review

In beautiful packaging that doubles as a small evening clutch, Love Candy by Kendra: The Curve is a handy to use sex toy from Evolved Novelties dressed in a slinky black silicone skin.

The Love Candy by Kendra: The Curve fits in one’s palm with the vibrations happening at the end of its slightly pointy but comfortable tip. The push buttons at the sides of the top are easy to use: one on/off button and one for the 3 speeds and 7 functions so you can create just the right combo for pleasure.
My only issue was the difficulty I experienced putting the 2 AAA batteries into the battery compartment, trying to make the cap position itself just right in order to twist it and close it properly. It was pretty tricky to do but eventually, I succeeded. My advice is to install the batteries when you’re not thinking about sex toys… like when you put batteries into your kids’ toys… then it’s ready to go when you are. Like after the kids are asleep. Mmmmm…

So, What Did I Think of Love Candy by Kendra: The Curve?

This is a really nice sex toy from Evolved Novelties. It has a slim and sleek look to it and is comfortable to hold. It’s genuinely designed to use all over your body and is perfect for relaxing tired muscles and for pressing against your vulva and clit.
The buttons are intuitive, the form-fit pleasing. Again, my only complaint is the difficulty I had putting in the batteries but so long as your sex toy is prepped ahead of time, it should be a problem. I’d recommend this handy fits-in-your-palm massager to a friend.

Phthalates in Sex Toys: A Thing of the Past?

Actually, since I know the industry so well, almost all of the major manufacturers have eliminated phthalates in their products and are making them out of TPE (thermo plastic elastomer) or TPR (thermo plastic rubber) both of which contain NO phthalates yet still look and feel like the typical jelly rubber toys.

Phthalates in sex toys are bad news!

The EU has outlawed phthalates in products so in order to export sex toys to Europe, the major companies have eliminated using the rubber softeners phthalates in their toys. At GrandOpening.com, there is a HUGE variety of sex toys and they will each state if they are phthalate free, which the majority are.
When buying a sex toy, the best way to determine if there are phthalates in the toy is to try to detect an odor on the toy while in its packaging. If it was made with phthalates, the toy will give off a slightly unpleasant scent. If the toy does not have phthalates, it will be odor free. Also, many of the common jelly rubber toys ARE, in fact, phthalate free. But what’s the best way to check? Scent, of course.

What’s the Problem with Phthalates?

There hasn’t been a ton of research done on the subject, but what we do know is this: they are a type of chemical group that is used to soften plastics; they are used in a wide variety of products; and they can rub off onto the skin when you use a product containing them. Yuck! Plus, one study has connected these chemicals to thyroid issues.
So what can you do? Look for phthalate-free products or purchase a silicone sex toy to eliminate the concern entirely. More and more major manufacturers are switching over to safer materials but that doesn’t mean you can let your guard down. Pay attention to what you’re putting on (and in!) your body!

All I can say is WOW! I had known Kali for years as we both were in Boston for more than a decade, crossing paths at various functions all having to do with educational sexuality. When the opportunity to be part of the Passionate U crew of sexual educators, I jumped at it.
I am so excited to be sharing the two plus decades of experience I have with everything to do with sex. How to enjoy it, how to expand it, and most of all, how to add sex toys to the excitement of it all.
You know, I’ve always said “Remember what it was like when you were given a toy when you were a kid? There was boundless enthusiasm, you were happy, you just couldn’t wait to get home to rip open the package and have fun!” I say have that same excitement you had then with a toy for grown ups! But it carries powerful enough vibrations through that large head to stimulate and satisfy seasoned pros. It’s totally waterproof, too, which is nice for taking into the bath or shower for soapy, wet, one-on-one time. It requires 2 AA batteries and measures 8.5-inches long by 1.6-inches wide. The tip has a girth of 4.25 inches.

So, What Did I Think of the G Spot Slimline Vibe?

The motor is quiet, the finish is smooth, the seamless design is comfortable, and the vibrations are powerful. Add Phthalate-free and ABS plastic to that list and it’s perfect. This is an all-around excellent gspot vibrator for anyone who likes targeted stimulation. Use it alone or with a partner. It’s up to you. But I’d keep this one handy if I were you.

Adult Toys Abstract Accepted by Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality

I have good news to report! My abstract for a presentation has been accepted for the annual meeting of The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS)! It’s taking place in San Diego in November and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
The presentation is called, “Practical Knowledge of Adult Toys for Practitioners.” Intrigued? You should be! Adult toys and their role in medical practice is one of my favorite topics. I’ll be posting more updates about this soon and maybe even some info on the subject for those scientific minds out there.
The SSSS was founded in 1957 to promote and encourage the study of sexuality.

Intensity by Jopen Review

Jopen raises the bar yet again with the Intensity by Jopen. This is not merely a toy for snuggling with… it is more of a sexual health product that may help women with various medical issues. Before I get ahead of myself, let me begin by saying that this 4 AAA battery powered gizmo is hefty in size but not in weight (the insertable shaft is a typical 5” x 1 ½” but the entire contraption is 12” long). It offers the user many different options…
Here goes: the silicone shaft has an accordion type sleeve which gently expands when the bulbous base is squeezed (there is a button on the bottom to release the air which remains self-contained). The button controls in the front are easy to use when the shaft is inserted for use. The main feature of the Intensity by Jopen is, to put it mildly, intense. It has two electro-stimulation pads on the top and the bottom of the shaft that make a connection via your vagina when inserted. The pads are placed to stimulate above the g spot, and, more accurately, the PC muscle (pubo-coccygeal muscle which is the muscle that you exercise when doing Kegels, it’s also commonly known as the “pelvic sling”).
The variable speed electrostimulation pulses in order to stimulate the muscles which may be contributing to urinary incontinence caused by a number of underlying issues such as childbirth, aging, lack of use, etc. And there’s also a variable speed, three eared rabbit type external stimulator in case your clitoris feels lonely and needs attention during your internal romp. The same vibration button also controls a vibrator on the shaft in the g spot area.

What Did I Think of the Intensity by Jopen?

It’s intense, to be sure, but the Intensity by Jopen is a high quality product. Hopefully there will be medical professionals aware of the Intensity who can recommend it to their patients that need this product to increase vaginal health and sensitivity.
But then again, there’s a big contingent of kinksters out there who would love to get their paws on the Intensity – health issues be damned! Line me up!

The clit stimulator on this vibrator is out of this world, offering up triple the sensation. It really stands out when compared to other products of this style. Plus, the beads are located at the right spot to provide external and internal vaginal stimulation for added oomph.
All in all, this sex toy is one to remember.
